| Fitting A Cassette Toilet
I am very impressed with the site that you are setting up. It is a shame that there are not a few more sites like this to assist DIY caravan servicers who refuse to pay expensive dealers prices. Would you give me some advice.
- I only have room in my caravan to fit a Thetford swivel toilet and I do not have an internal water tank. I would prefer the electric flush version but there is no integral flush water tank within this model. Would I be able to use an external water container as the flush water tank and connect in through either the washroom floor or the cassette removal hatch.
- Where does the manual flush model's integral flush water tank fill from?.
- Is the added convenience of a cassette toilet rather than a traditional porta-potti worth the expense?
- How difficult is it to cut the access door into the side of the caravan for the cassette removal door to be fitted?.
Thanks for your help and keep up the good work with the site.
The model that uses the caravan water system needs a large pump to run it, normally a shurflo or evenflow, the water is taken from you freshwater container and pumped to the toilet in the same way as a tap works, a submersible hasn't got enough power to flush the toilet. If you haven't got a shurflo already and you have a submersible then I would go for the toilet with its own tank. The cost of the pump alone is around £70.
The tank filler is situated above the cassette door, another hole has to be made for it. Fitting the door isn't too hard it comes with a template.,you will need to fit wood around the inside of the hole to screw into.
It is quite a job to fit and quite is quite expensive,I would say it is worth doing if your van is worth over £2500 or If you are planning to keep it for a long time,if not you may not get enough use out of it to be worth the effort. You still have to empty it in the same way as a porta potti. It will add value to the sale price, but not normally as much as it costs to fit.
I hope this has answered your questions.
